NEWS: Cyprus nears Schengen membership – a game changer for buyers and investors

On 9th May, President Nikos Christodoulides confirmed that Cyprus is on track to meet all technical and legislative requirements by the end of 2025, with full Schengen membership expected in 2026. The announcement, made during Europe Day celebrations in Nicosia alongside European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, highlighted Cyprus’s strengthening ties with the European Union.

President Metsola offered her full support, praising the country’s leadership and reaffirming the European Parliament’s commitment to Cyprus’s ambitions within the EU, as well as to a lasting resolution of the Cyprus issue under UN guidance.

Why this matters for international buyers

For MyElysium clients – whether you are an international investor, a Cyprus Permanent Residency holder, or exploring second home opportunities – this development strengthens Cyprus’s position as one of the most attractive and strategic destinations in Europe.

Once Cyprus joins the Schengen Zone, permanent residents and property investors will benefit from:

  • Visa-free travel across 27 EU countries, making mobility across Europe much easier
  • Greater investment security in a stable and EU-aligned jurisdiction
  • Improved access to Europe’s business, education, and lifestyle opportunities

This progress further enhances Cyprus’s appeal as a safe, well-connected destination for real estate investment, holiday homes, or relocation – particularly for non-EU citizens seeking long-term value and Mediterranean living.
